The Secrets of Okinawa People That Longevity

Okinawa, an island in Japan, famous as having the number of centenarians (people aged 100 years or more) in the world. The incidence of heart disease, dementia, and cancer in this region is very low compared to other countries. 

What's the secret? In Okinawa, they practice the Ivy hachi bu, or eating up to 80 percent full. They are not accustomed to overeating. Spiritual lifestyle that they played, like with regular prayer and meditation, is believed to reduce stress levels and also related to their longevity.

Meanwhile, the low incidence of cancer in Okinawa due to their high-fiber diet. They also mengasup rice, soybeans, fruits, omega-3 derived from fish, and rarely eat red meat and dairy. 

Social support from family and friends is also very strong here. The elderly population is also still active in the association. "Strong social ties not only reduces stress but also prevent disease and create a long life," says Dan Buettner, a researcher, regarding longevity. 

Buettner Okinawa classify as one of the blue zone in the world. Zone which has a population of up to 100 years old and stay healthy including Italy, Greece, California, and Costa Rica.
